Every time you search on Google or post on Facebook, over a thousand companies are tracking data about you. Now, it’s likely that you’re being tracked when you’re out finishing up your Christmas shopping. In an effort to gain as much knowledge about in-store shoppers as possible, new technologies have surfaced that allow stores to track a shopper’s movements and shopping patterns without their knowledge, via the Wi-Fi signals on smartphones.

AVG, a global leader in security software, wants consumers to have a CHOICE about what data they’re sharing while shopping. On December 10th, the release of the new Wi-Fi Do Not Track (DNT) feature available through AVG’s existing mobile app PrivacyFix for Android is aimed at doing just that! With a simple toggle switch, consumers can automatically suspend Wi-Fi while they are out of trusted Wi-Fi networks to prevent tracking about their whereabouts or shopping patterns.
