Somehow I fooled enough people into believing that I have some importance. From time-to-time I get press releases that I simply look over, and then delete forever from my email. Instead of being a jerk, I figure I might as well share it with you:
Cinema41 Fundraiser at Beerland on Saturday, January 26th
Austin, Texas, January 7th, 2013 – In preparation for its comeback screening event (which will be held January 31st at the Austin Film Society,) Cinema41 is hosting a fundraiser at Beerland, located at 711 Red River Street, on Saturday the 26th. The performance lineup includes Greg Mullen and the Cosmic American Band, P-tex, Tijuana Bible, and self-described “dirtpop soul & rock and roll” artist Bobby Jealousy. Doors to the show will open at 9:00 pm, and performances will start at 10:00. There will be a $6 cover.
Director of Media Management Greg Clark says of the season fundraiser: “If you support the arts, if you support indie film, or if you just want to have a good time, come out and celebrate with us!” Cinema41 encourages everyone over 21 to attend the evening of awesome shows that it has lined up for the fundraiser.
Cinema41, recently awarded the “Best Indie Film Cred Boost” from The Austin Chronicle’s coveted “Best Of” list, is an organization dedicated to screening overlooked and forgotten independent films. It supplements each screening with a special guest (e.g. filmmaker, theorist, academic, etc.) to help contextualize the films for a general audience. As an Austin group that is poised to create a nationally recognized support network for independent films and filmmakers alike, Cinema41 is a great monthly event for cinephiles and for those who strive to recognize the communal, collaborative power of film.
