Iron Man 3 Review
Ryan Revolver

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr…duh) is back in the saddle again as Iron Man. When bombings from The Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) hits close to home, Stark sets off to find the President taunting terrorist.

Iron Man 3 finds RDJ suffering from PTSD from those disastrous events that took place last year in New York (*cough cough* The Avengers *cough cough*). He hasn’t lost his observational humor as he leads the audience through nifty little twists that were absent in Iron Man 2. The third Iron film has to be equal to or greater than The Avengers more than Iron Man 2, and it did just fine.

From the beginning you see that Stark has clearly been the ego-driven brilliant jerk, which we all love, since 1999. At the Y2K festivities in Switzerland we are graced with an old friend, and two new ones: Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall) and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce). Those two come back into Tony’s life in a rather fiery way. Hall didn’t have that deer-in-the-headlights look that she did in The Town (due to the fact she knew what was transpiring). Pearce and his sharp cheek bones was muy bueno as a performer. Like those diet pill commercials, Pearce is good at that whole before-and-after thing. Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) has a more heroic role in this outing, and Don Cheadle cements himself as Colonel James Rhodes (take that Terrence). Iron Man 3 is the equivalent of Tony Stark slumming it. Yes RDJ is quite good at what he does, there is no denying it. But Kingsley has honed the craft of acting so well that he can be on screen a fraction of the time RDJ is and still make an impact that lasts. I could go on with a philosophical, one-man, discussion about is Tony Stark Iron Man or is Iron Man Tony Stark. I will go ahead and table that idea, and let RDJ due it in a much more simple way. Ooo! Explosions!

The ending (or “house protocol” if you want to speak fancy) most definitely leaves some serious questions about the universe that Marvel has created on the big screen. What is to be of Tony Stark and company? What will The Avengers 2 look like? If there is going to be an Iron Man 4? All of these questions you can attempt to answer as you wait for the credits to end so you can see the hidden scene that answers none of them. Damn.
