An Austin police sergeant has been suspended after officials say he grabbed a suspect’s neck, throat and chin area and yelled obscenities at him in March. Sgt. Kenneth Conner was suspended for 15 days, effective Thursday, according to a memo from Police Chief Art Acevedo.

On March 8, Conner responded to a glass break alarm on West Stassney Lane, where he detained and handcuffed a suspect and then handed him over to another officer, who secured him in the back seat of a patrol car, the memo says. The suspect started kicking and banging around in the back of the car, and Conner helped the other officer further restrain the suspect to keep him from being disruptive, the memo says. After Conner buckled his seat belt and then backed out of the car, the suspect spat at him, according to the memo. Conner then grabbed the suspect and yelled obscenities at him, it says.
