Firing of police officer upheld


An arbitrator has upheld the firing of an Austin police officer who hit a suspect on a gurney after the woman spit on her, according to city documents.

Police Chief Art Acevedo fired Michelle Gish and another officer last year after the 2011 incident, saying she violated the department’s use-of-force policies and gave inconsistent statements about what happened.

The city also found that Gish violated the Police Department’s rules related to honesty and bringing discredit upon the department.
