Poll: Texans say Gov. Rick Perry shouldn't run again

Is it time for Rick Perry to call it quits as Texas governor?

More than six in 10 Texas voters -- including 34% who describe themselves as "very conservative" -- say it's time for Perry to step aside, according to a Public Policy Polling survey. That compares with 31% of Texas voters who say Perry should seek re-election in 2014.

The Republican -- in office since 2000 -- is already the longest-serving Texas governor. Perry hasn't said whether he will seek another term, run for president in 2016 or do both. A lot could happen between now and the end of the filing period for gubernatorial candidates, but these numbers are a cautionary tale for Perry even at this early stage of the game.
