Three Austin trails, starting in about 10 days, once again will be off limits overnight, the Austin City Council decided Thursday.
But the 6-1 vote to end two months early what was scheduled to be a seven-month experiment sparked unusually personal debate between council members, with several who voted to bar bicyclists from trails in the wee hours saying they did so only because they faced a “false choice.” Council Member Chris Riley, an avid cyclist who last spring first suggested letting cyclists use those trails overnight, was the sole “no” vote Thursday.
