A grant to the Texas Medical Association will allow doctors to improve the way they run their business.

As a result of the 100-thousand dollar grant from the Physicians Foundation, a national nonprofit, your doctor's practice can get a business checkup. Dr. Carl Trusler, chairman of TMA's Council on Practice Management Services, says it's a good idea because most doctors don't receive much business training, "I've been in practive for 37 years and what I've learned, I've learned from the ground up, like on the job training.  I haven't had any specific training."

Dr. Trusler says if a doctor runs a healthy practice, from a business standpoint, patients benefit because it gives them better access to care.
