You have your Black-Friday shopping list and you're ready to brave the throngs of other shoppers seeking enticing deals but a 'toy watchdog' group says you need one more thing before you head out.
TexPIRG, the group that puts out the annual Trouble in Toyland list of dangerous toys has a free *app* you can download to check a toy's safety before you buy. The group's Ilya Slavinski says the toys that make the list are those that pose a risk from such things as choking, toxic chemicals, even noisy toys that can cause gradual hear loss, "This is only a random sampling, it's not a comprehensive list, so they should be vigilent when they're out there shopping, looking for things like small parts and seeing if toys seem too loud."
Slavinski says an empty toilet paper roll serves a good tester anything that fits through it can be swallowed. The downloadable app is ToySafety.mobi.
