The operators of the future Manor Expressway, the toll lanes of 290 east, will be opening part of the brand new road sometime Saturday morning.
"It's only about a mile or a mile and a half. But it will allow drivers to bypass two traffic signals and bypass some congestion on the existing frontage roads," the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority's Steve Pustelnyk said.
Pustelnyk says the new lanes will improve travel times and in the month of December, the east bound lanes will be free of tolls.
"We are expediting construction of the new facility and hope to have it completely open by 2014, so a little over a year from now," Pustelnyk said.
The CTRMA says when the road is finished, it will cost $1.59 to drive the entire length and $2.12 if you drive the entire length and use the flyover ramps at US Route 183.
