An incentive package being offered to VISA to bring 800 I.T. jobs to Ausin could get city council approval this week.
The City of Austin is offering to pay VISA $250 dollars for every job created with a cap at $1.56 million over ten years. Eve Richter in the city's Economic Development office says Austin has to kick in some kind of incentive for VISA to pick up more money from the state, "It's a small amount that opens them up to larger amount that can be available from the state. But, we would never offer something, just to throw it out there, unless we feel it's a good deal."
Richter says she feels the offer is small in exchange for the benefit to the city. The average annual wage is estimated at $113 thousand dollars. Council could take action after a public meeting on Thursday.
