The state comptroller may soon be charged with calculating the amount illegal immigrants cost the state each year, then sending a bill to the federal government for reimbursement.　

That's if State Representative James White's bill is approved by the legislature. White says if the federal government is going to require that we educate and provide healthcare to those in the country illegally, it's only fair they pay us back, "I'm not talking about putting out a press release where you go out on the border and try to gin up votes for campaing contributions.  Where the Comptroller sits down in a very thoughtful and pragmatic and practical way, comes up with the cost and then sends the federal government a bill.  And then you have to start the discussion somewhere and ask for some type of fiscal relief."
