A fired Austin police detective is appealing to get his job back.

In all, Detective Richard Munoz has been suspended six times since he started with APD in 1995.

The former Detective was suspended indefinitely in May, according to the disciplinary memo, for shoddy investigations, not returning calls from the victim, and interrogating a suspect over the phone, with no recording of it.

An appeal hearing is scheduled to get underway at 9 this morning. Munoz successfully appealed being fired once before this in 2006. According to the memo, he was fired for use of force and documentaton of incidents. A hearing examiner reduced firing to a 3-day suspension.
