A man has been charged with animal cruelty after police said he shot and killed a neighbor’s dog in a rural Cedar Creek neighborhood.  Joseph Frye Jr. was arrested last Thursday after witnesses say he fired three shots that killed Gordy, a mixed breed dog belonging to “Flash” Jordan Thomas.  “It was a moment of violence,” said Thomas. “It is so sad.”  Thomas told KXAN that she has known Frye since he was a child and the two live along the same stretch of River Road.  According to Frye’s father, the dogs in Thomas’ yard tried to attack his son while he was riding his bicycle. Frye then returned to his home to get his shotgun before going back and shooting Gordy.

Thomas says several dogs run off leash in the neighborhood, but neighbors are usually friendly and accepting.  “People are good to dogs out here and this is a dog loving neighborhood,” said Thomas.  She also said Gordy was the most docile of her three dogs and would not have threatened anybody.  “She was the angel of the neighborhood.”  The arrest affidavit indicated that Frye made threats to kill two more dogs and that pellets from shotgun shells hit a neighbor’s home.
