Hundreds of millions of dollars in unpaid tolls has TXDOT and state-wide toll authorities asking lawmakers in the Capitol for help.
Florida, California and Massachusetts are a few states that have had success with blocking vehicle registration and impounding cars of the biggest scofflaws, toll offenders. Texas Department of Transportation Director Phil Wilson is calling on lawmakers to adopt similar programs, "The top 11 percent of violators account for about 80 percent of the 10 million dollars we're owed. And the top one percent drive a big part of that. So you have 4000 violators that owe 10 million in violations." Wilson would also like TXDOT to have the right to publish the names to the biggest offenders. Something the North Texas Tollway Authority does.
