Some college campus security experts fear allowing concealed handgun owners on campus may actually lead to an increase in crime.

Nationally the vast majority of all crime on college campuses is theft by about 80-percent. State Representative Van Taylor endorses a bill to allow concealed handgun owners open access, "This is the can and should expand to allow people who are getting their degree in higher learning to be able to defend themselves."  Former Cockrell Hill police chief and campus security expert Catherine Torrez says one consequence could be gun theft, "Unless the campus was willing to put locked safes in all the dorm rooms, then that would not be a good outlet for schools to allow."  Five states currently have laws allowing concealed weapons on campus.
