The US Fish and Wildlife service releases a report today on the economic impact of listing four species of Central Texas salamanders on the 'endangered' list.

The report shows the listing would require setting aside 64 hundred acres of land for the Austin Blind, Jollyville Plateau, Georgetown and Salado Salamanders at a cost of over 29 million dollars over a 23 year period. Williamson County Commissioner Lisa Birkman says the county and several cities are opposing the listing, "It's the county, the state government, the federal government, possibly the school districts, cities and possibly private land owners that would be affected by this."

Birkman says the listing would possibly affect future road projects. The fish and wildlife service are giving the public until March 11th to weigh in on the proposal.
