Texas turns to Florida for advice on education reform. Lt. Governor David Dewhurst is following Jeb Bush's lead in asking big business to sponsor a voucher system.
Dewhurst told business leaders he wants to replicate a Florida plan to defer business taxes to help the needy kids get a better education, "On the business franchise tax in Florida, businesses can deduct a small percentage, say five percent, of their taxes and apply that to a tax credit which can be monitized and pay for 'opportunity scholarships'." Dewhurst also endorsed strengthening the controversial Parent Trigger law giving parents a vote to overhaul failing schools after three years
