News Radio KLBJ lost a friend this week. Reporter Barbara McCarley passed away after suffering critical injuries in a car crash on FM-2222, Tuesday. Barbara started reporting local news in Austin in 1998 and was the best.
She was assigned to cover City Hall, but also covered many breaking news stories. She was instrumental in covering the Steiner Ranch wildfires. Barbara was a fast and loyal friend to all who knew her. Whether she was interviewing them or helping someone in their time of need.
Barbara made it a point to involve her children in her charity work, providing food to the homeless, even making deliveries for Blue Santa. Barbara was also active in the Texas Advocacy Network that helps battered women. She recruited as many friends as she could to come to their events to help raise money for those organizations. She was active in her children's school and extracurricular events, even organizing a major fundraiser that is now a yearly fund raiser. Barbara also loved photography and making funny videos with her kids.
Barbara is a native of Corpus Christi and is survived by her husband, Robert of 18 years, two children, ages 13 and 11, three sisters and several nieces and nephews.
Words can not describe the loss we feel in our hearts and in our newsroom.
