Williamson County Sheriff's investigators are looking for new information in the attack on an elderly couple, that led to the husband's death. According the sheriff's office:
On March 5, 1988, an elderly couple that ran the Taylor Laundromat, S.E.. Ritchey and his wife Ethel, were assaulted and robbed in their front yard resulting in the death of S.E. Ritchey.
The attacked occurred shortly after 10:00pm, after the couple had closed the Laundromat and arrived home from stopping at the HEB Grocery Store in Taylor. While unloading their groceries, Mr. Ritchey was struck in the head with a blunt object rendering him unconscious. Mrs. Ritchey also was assaulted and rendered unconscious. After taking $300.00 from Mrs. Richey’s purse, and Mr. Richey’s black wallet, the suspect/s would leave both elderly people to die in their front yard. Mrs. Ritchey woke up and summoned help. Mr. Ritchey was transported by helicopter to Brackenridge Hospital where he underwent a six hour surgery to repair his fractured skull. On March 22, 1988, S.E. Ritchey died from his injury.
The anniversary of Mr. Richey’s death is a reminder to the public that this homicide is not yet solved. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office hopes that someone may come forward, after all these years, to solve this homicide, the homicide of a 77 year old man, who worked up to the time of his death.
Mr. and Mrs. Ritchey lived on County Road 479 about .2 miles off FM 112, near the small town of Shiloh. Mr. Richey’s wallet was black in color, and had the initials S.E.R printed on it. Anyone with information regarding this homicide is encouraged to contact the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office Detective Richard De la Vega at 512-943-1354 or Williamson County Crime Stoppers at 1800-253-7867.
