Travis County already considering changes to brand new incentive policy

Travis county wants to take a closer look at their policy awarding economic incentives for companies. Commissioner Sarah Eckhardt says even though a policy has already been approved, they may want to revise it to include working conditions for construction workers and further incentives for hiring the needy.

Advocates for construction workers say protections for workers at building sites should also be part of the incentive policy. Greg Casar with the Workers Defense Project says the county's policy is missing protections for construction workers who may work on county projects, like the upcoming courthouse.Commissioners delayed the item and will consider it again next week.

Travis County Commissioners are considering forming a new task force to look at ways the county can revise their economic development policy to benefit poor workers. Commissioners could approve creating a panel on revising the policy next week.
