In its annual list of 25 best places to retire, Forbes has included three Texas cities - Austin, College Station and San Antonio. Regarding Austin, the magazine touts its "big culture scene," warm climate, adequate doctors, no state income tax and active lifestyles. The single negative factor is the median home price of $208,000, which is above the national average. On the plus side for College Station, the magazine notes its "college-town cultural amenities, low cost of living, median home price $149,000, no state income tax, warm climate, low crime." The one "con" listed is the (presumably low) average doctors per capita.
Here's the summary for San Antonio: "Pros: Low cost of living, median home price $162,000, no state income tax, warm climate, abundant doctors. Con: Crime, low volunteering level." Austin and San Antonio also made Forbes' 2012 list of 25 places to retire, along with Corpus Christi.
