Urban rail helps to obtain federal grants: Mayor

The mayor of Austin says affordable housing is one reason why urban rail has a place in the city.  Lee Leffingwell says such a service would make Austin more attractive for federal grants.

"I think it's intuitive that both [urban rail and MetroRail] would experience growth in ridership as a result of urban rail going into place. But how do we quantify that with simple intuition?" he said.

Leffingwell says federal housing and federal transit systems look for projects which complement eachother.
