Austin Police expanding their watchful eye

The watchful eye of police is expanding in Austin. In May, the Austin City Council approved funding for 10 new High Activity Location Observation, or HALO, cameras.  Eight of the 10 new HALO cameras will be downtown. Four are in the Warehouse District, one is at Sixth Street and Trinity. The others will be placed at 4th Street and Sabine, and two more will be on The W Hotel.  Jamison Driskill, a manager at Halcyon coffee shop on a corner where one of the new cameras will be, says it will be good for the area.  "There have been some assaults," Driskill said. "We're right across the street from all the gay bars in town, and there's been some problems with hate crimes there."  Halcyon opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 2 a.m. In those wee hours, Driskill says he's seen some suspicious people, and crime.
