City considering new helipad rules after concerns raised during F-1

During the inaugural F-1 race here in Central Texas…there was much concern over the flying of helicopters over quiet Austin neighborhoods. And the city is trying to put some rules into place to curb those issues in the future.

One of the main complaints was helicopter after helicopter flying over and disrupting the day to day activities in normally peaceful neighborhoods. Shane Harbinson with the aviation department says the first rule places limits on the number of flights. He says “The biggest one…it creates a heli-stop for a community total of 10 or fewer take-offs and landings per day.

Other rules apply to special events; limiting the number of days helicopters can be used and how many can use a single helipad.
