More than foot of rain falls during Texas storms

Strong storms have dumped more than a foot of rain in Central Texas, prompting officials to rescue two people from trees after their SUV was swept away by floodwaters. Up to 14 inches fell in the Austin area, and a few school districts canceled classes.  Emergency officials in Buda say a man and a woman climbed separate trees after encountering floodwaters in their SUV. Both were rescued early Thursday.    Fire Capt. Craig Odell says people near Little Bear Creek called 911 after hearing screams for help. Officials had thought four people were missing, but found a man in one tree and a woman in another about 150 yards downstream.  A helicopter rescued the pair and took them to a hospital. Both suffered lacerations and the man broke his nose.
