Augustine Salazar, 39, was arrested at his parole officer’s office in Georgetown in April of 2007 on new charges for kidnapping and assault out of Travis County. Salazar was very near completing a 12 year sentence for “false imprisonment”.

According to prosecutors, the parole officer asked for Georgetown Police take Salazar to jail and impound his car. District Attorney john Bradley says while conducting an inventory before towing Salazar’s car, the Georgetown officer found over 10 grams of cocaine in a plastic baggie, marijuana and a set of car lock picks.

New possession charges were then filed against Salazar. He was convicted on those charges this week be a Williamson County jury.

As part of the sentencing phase, the jury was told about Salazar’s criminal history, which also includes burglary. In addition, the woman who says Salazar kidnapped her in Travis County testified.

The jury assessed Salazar’s punishment at 50 years in prison. Judge Burt Carnes imposed the sentence and ordered the sentence to begin only after Salazar finishes the rest of his 12-year that was interrupted by his arrest in April.
