State District Judge David Crain has sentenced an Austin man to nine years probation following his conviction on two counts of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault. The jury found 23 year old Ruben Correa Arzola, guilty back in October. The charges stemmed from a 2010, wreck in North Austin that killed two people, 16 year old Francisco Gabriel Villegas, and 17 year old Miguel Angel Correa-Hernandez. The wreck also seriously injured three others, including Arzola, his brother, Rene Jose Arzola, and Sergio Vasquez, both now 20. The Austin American Statesman is reporting that in the verdict in the 331st District Court, the jury recommended sentences of nine years on the intoxication manslaughter counts and four years on the assault charges but said that the sentences should be suspended because Arzola, a student at Austin Community College, had never been convicted of a felony. Arzola could have faced sentences of 2 to 20 years. Judge Crain suspended the sentences and placed Arzola on probation for nine years.
