As lawmakers convene at the State Capitol next month, they will be asked to consider two bills in particular from State Representative Lyle Larson, of San Antonio. One deals with the accountability of Regional Mobility Authorities, or RMAs.
Larson says if governments begin aggregating that much policy and funding, elected representatives need to be assembled.
"Denver and some other communities do have elected metropolitan transit authorities in their communities. There's a whole lot more public feedback because the folks that are serving can be held accountable next time they're on the ballot," he said.
Larson says when hundreds of millions of dollars are being controlled by one governmental body, the members are a lot more responsive if they're elected than if they're appointed.
