APD Chief warns parents about online predators after parks employee arrest

Austin's police chief is warning parents about online predators after a parks employee was arrested for allegedly taking advantage of a 14-year-old boy.

Police say 30-year-old Juan Garza Junior knew his victim from his job, but that is not always the way these things get started. Chief Art Acevedo urges parents to use this as a teachable moment, "That speaks to the importance of parents to always monitor their kids in what they're doing on social media, whether it's facebook or twitter."

Acevedo recommends putting the child's computer in a place where the whole family can see it. He also says to be careful about your child's cell phone activity and is in favor of facebook friending your kid.
