Capital Metro revenues continue upward trend

Revenues supporting Austin's bus system keep ticking upward and that means people around town are spending more money by each passing month.

Capital Metro revenues can be seen as a canary in the coal mine, for the Austin economy. 80-percent of their funding comes from one cent of the 8 cents everybody pays for each dollar spent. Capital Metro money expert Billy Hamilton says sales tax collections are up 22%. That's just over two million dollars and that, he says, is surprising.

Hamilton says looking back on November, the question is how did the Formula-One race help. He says it added about $600,000 in revenue.
