There has been a spike in the number of vehicle break-ins in Westlake and they're even occurring on the school campuses of Eanes ISD.
It's gotten so bad the district has sent a warning out to parents and staff to hide their stuff. Westlake Hills Police Sgt. Donny Torres says they've had as many as 12 break-ins on the same day, "What they're doing is basically checking to see if the doors are unlocked, and looking for valuables inside the car. A lot of people don't take their purse or anything inside with them - or cell phones. They'll just leave everything in the center console inside the car, and they look for that."
Torres says lock your doors and hide your belongings. He says if you see something suspicious, call police. It's better to be safe than sorry.
