Travis County Commissioners to consider smoking ban
Newsroom
1/28/2013

A smoking ban on all county buildings and properties will get more discussion tomorrow. The plan would ban all tobacco at all Travis County Buildings and properties. Commissioners have been discussing the issue for more than a year, but have not put the policy in place yet. The county's Sheila Durr-Hughes says the ban would reduce second hand smoke, help employees and visitors quit smoking, and save taxpayer money.

Commissioners will be asked to amend the current health code at their meeting tomorrow in order to qualify for funding to pay for signs informing workers of the ban.

The county's Health and Human Services went over a draft policy in September, but Commissioners have not yet approved it. Commissioners are also considering phasing in the ban that would include county owned parks.
