Capital Metro bus and train ridership up

Things seem to be looking up at Capital Metro these days as they tout an increase in ridership for last year.

2012 brought with it an increase of one point five million trips over 2011. The bus agency says they provided an average of 112,000 rides each weekday. They also say MetroRail ridership has tripled since 2010. Austin's traffic gridlock seems to be forcing more people to use Capital Metro buses and rail. Traffic problems on I-35 and Mopac are getting no better as the state grapples with how to fix things.

It has not been all roses for the bus agency, though. They had some issues with their labor transition as drivers went from working for Capital Metro to working for a private contractor.
