A Texas lawmaker files a bill to make it harder for outside organizations to provide sex education in schools. But some say that may mean more unplanned pregnancies.
Representative Jeff Leach's bill would require schools to obtain parental permission before outside agencies can offer sex ed instruction in school and it forbids it from any organization affiliated with abortion providers. The Texas Freedom Network's Dan Quinn says Texas already has one of the highest teen birth rates in the nation, "They're using the abortion wars to go after sex education. The only thing sex education has to do with abortion is to make it less likely a young person will become pregnant and seek one in the first place."
Quinn says if lawmakers want to improve sex ed in Texas, they should require information in such classes to be medically accurate.
