Not everyone is happy with the proposed school rating system

A plan to change school ratings from acceptable and unacceptable to A through F has ruffled some feathers on the Senate Education Committee.

Some lawmakers, like Senator Leticia Van De Pute, say grading a school district sends the wrong message. She tells KLBJ "This is dumbing down our parents, this is telling them they don't have the ability to find out why their school is low performing or not."

Van de Pute says she would like to see an explanation given to parents along with the grade. The bill moved out of committee on a vote of seven to two, with Van de Pute and Senator Royce West voting against it.
