Economy is on Obama’s agenda for Austin visit

President Barack Obama is coming to Austin on Thursday to talk about the economy. Returning to Texas for the second time in three weeks, Obama will be traveling to a state that has consistently outpaced the national economy. Air Force One will deliver the president to the wheelhouse of the “Texas miracle,” which Republican officials from Gov. Rick Perry on down credit to the state’s low-tax, low-regulatory, pro-business regime, a stark contrast, they say, to the way the federal government under Obama operates. He will also be arriving as the Texas Legislature is rushing headlong into the last weeks of its biennial 140-day session with legislators still trying to figure out if there is a “Texas solution” that would enable the state to pursue an alternative to expanding Medicaid, which Perry flatly opposes.
