APD Chief: 'Austin Attitude' may contribute to high number of property crime

Even though Austin is the second safest city when it comes to violent crime we do have a big problem with property crime. And our Police Chief says it may have something to do with the "Austin attitude".

We may not have to worry much about being victims of violence, but when it comes to property crime, Austin is in the bottom five of cities with more than a half million people. APD Chief Art Acevedo says that our attitude could be a contributing factor, "The sad truth is that (in) a third of our burglaries,  there is no forced entry because people don't lock their doors.  They don't close their garage doors."

Acevedo says that even though Austin is a Metropolis many times people still treat it as if they are living in a small town.
