The new Central Library and related improvements project is under construction, and taking some steps forward.

It’s not coming cheap. The budget for the library itself is $120,000,000 and the Second street improvements are more than $24,000,000. As of today the main contractor is moving things along.

Cynthia Jordan, Project Manager with the Public Works Department tells KLBJ, “They are taking bids today on the screen-wall that will go around the Seaholm Substation infrastructure…they will be taking bids on the excavation and demolition of the Shoal Creek embankment.”

Jordan says they are also taking bids on the mechanically stabilized soil retention along Shoal Creek. She says the project is scheduled to be complete by February 2016, with the library opening later that summer.
