San Antonio jury deadlocks in party planner case

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A South Texas jury has deadlocked over whether an official fired after $16,000 in public funds went for a party misused the money.

A judge in San Antonio on Wednesday night declared a mistrial in the case of Jeanetta Tinsley.

The misapplication of fiduciary property charge remains pending.

Tinsley was fired in 2009 from San Antonio's Office of Grants Monitoring and Administration after an anonymous complaint. Prosecutors say Tinsley earlier threw a going-away party for her predecessor using Department of Housing and Urban Development funds.

The defense said HUD never contested the event and the party was to introduce Tinsley to municipal officials. The man Tinsley replaced, Andrew Cameron, testified the money was earmarked for administrative expenses and not housing.
