AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry is set to address an annual gathering of Boy Scouts from around Texas - even as the group's national leadership mulls a move away from its mandatory no-gays membership policy.
Perry's 2008 book "On My Honor" details his love for the Scouts and why the group should continue to embrace conservative values.
Profits from it went to the Boy Scouts of America Legal Defense since "they continue to be under attack from the forces of secularism."
The governor has spoken at the Boy Scouts Report to State before, most recently in 2010.
But when he does so Saturday at the state Capitol, it will be as the Scouts weigh whether or not to dramatically soften the group's exclusion of gay members.
