Ex-Odessa Permian teacher faces new charges

ODESSA, Texas (AP) - A former West Texas high school teacher about to go to trial on a charge of having an improper relationship with a student now faces additional charges.

A September 2010 indictment accused Robert K. Young of having sexual contact with a student at Odessa's Permian High School, where he was a math teacher. With trial scheduled to begin next week, an Ector County grand jury has added two more counts of improper relationship against Young.

The new indictment also accuses Young of using the Internet and text messages to solicit a student for sex and using those media to distribute sexually explicit material.

Messages left with Young's attorney, Rick Navarrete of Midland, seeking comment weren't returned.
