Family: Police account of son's death rings false

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The family of a San Antonio university student shot dead by a police officer says the police account of the shooting is inconsistent with the son's character.

Alamo Heights police say Robert Redus, a student at the nearby University of the Incarnate Word, was shot repeatedly Friday when he charged the officer after a traffic stop.

Redus' family says he wasn't aggressive.

Alamo Heights Police Chief Richard Pruitt has said Redus and police Capt. Chris Carter had struggled after the officer had tried to handcuff him after Redus was stopped for speeding and driving erratically.

Pruitt says Redus wrestled Carter's baton away and hit him with it
