New exhibit gives rarely seen view of Saudi Arabia

HOUSTON (AP) - A new exhibit set to open this week in Houston will give people a window into the rarely seen ancient world of Saudi Arabia.

The exhibit, "Roads of Arabia: Archaeology and History of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," examines the impact of ancient trade routes that traversed the Arabian Peninsula. It opens at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston on Thursday.

Saudi Prince Sultan bin Salman, in Houston Wednesday for a preview of the exhibit, says the collection of objects excavated from more than 10 archaeological sites is part of an effort to learn more about the heritage and culture that thrived in the Arabian peninsula.

Sultan serves as president and chairman of the Board of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities.
