Witness: Student, officer fought before shooting

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A University of Incarnate Word student says a fellow student resisted arrest and scuffled with a campus police officer in the moments before the officer fatally shot him.

Kyle Carnett says Robert Cameron Redus attempted to strike Cpl. Christopher Carter and ignored the officer's orders. His account aligns with details of the Dec. 6 confrontation provided by Alamo Heights police.

Authorities have said Carter stopped the 23-year-old Redus after seeing him drive erratically near the campus.

Carnett says Redus "was definitely not being cooperative." Carnett had turned away just before Carter fired six shots at Redus.

The Redus family has said they understand Cameron Redus was resisting arrest, but say he was initially cooperative and question the justification in shooting an unarmed student.
