Dallas police counts 'superheroes' among ranks

DALLAS (AP) - A handful of Dallas police officers are moonlighting as superheroes.

Officer Damon Cole and others volunteer at parades, school assemblies and other events in superhero costumes. Their goal is to have a positive influence on the city's children.

Cole and other officers participate in the group Heroes, Cops and Kids, working off the clock to participate in neighborhood events.

Cole plays Superman. Sgt. Merlin Lofton plays Snake Eyes from G.I. Joe, and Officer Ricardo Campbell dresses up at Batman.

Each officer pays for his or her own costume and for the costs of participation.
