Teenagers wanted in Comal County slaying arrested in Corpus Christi

Two teenagers who police say killed a Canyon Lake man on New Year’s Day were arrested Friday night near a motel in Corpus Christi.

Austin Myles Byrom, 19, and his fiancée, Skyler Katherine Burghart, 18, are suspects in the death of Byrom’s grandfather, James Carrol Spencer, 69, at his home in Canyon Lake. Comal County sheriff’s deputies say the couple stole Spencer’s white Lexus sedan and fled.

Authorities have released few details about Spencer’s death but have said it was a homicide. He was found dead shortly before 4 p.m. New Year’s Day in a front yard near his home in the 100 block of White Oak Drive.

The Statesman reports Lt. Mark Reynolds on Saturday said Comal County sheriff’s officials are not releasing any additional information at this time.
