FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - Investigators are trying to determine what started a North Texas house fire that has left three people critically hurt.

The Fort Worth Fire Department on Friday did not immediately update conditions of the man, the woman and the 6-year-old child. The youngster's gender wasn't immediately released.

The man escaped Thursday night's blaze but told rescuers that a woman and a child were still in the burning structure. Firefighters found those two victims in the rear of the home.

Capt. Tom Crow says all three people were critical when transported to hospitals as firefighters put out the blaze. The man has burns and was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. The woman and the child were taken to Fort Worth hospitals.

Their names and details on their relationship weren't released.
