Ex-El Paso County judge admits corruption

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - A former top El Paso County official has pleaded guilty to a mail fraud conspiracy count as part of an ongoing federal investigation into public corruption in the West Texas county.

Former El Paso County Judge Anthony Cobos entered his plea Tuesday before U.S. District Judge Frank Montalvo in El Paso.

He could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison. No sentencing date has been set.

Prosecutors alleged Cobos accepted gifts and money in exchange for providing favorable official actions. Cobos served as county judge from 2007 to 2011.
