Pedestrians aren&rsquo;t watching where they are going and they are not aware,&rdquo; said Thomas Ripoli, chief of the Fort Lee Police Department. Ripoli said the borough, which is home to approximately 35,000 residents, has suffered three fatal pedestrian-involved accidents this year. (AP) &mdash; A deeply tanned New Jersey mother accused of causing skin burns to her young daughter by taking her into a tanning booth pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a child endangerment charge, and the tanning salon's owner appeared to corroborate her story. Patricia Krentcil faces a second-degree child endangerment charge. Through her attorney, she pleaded not guilty in Newark Municipal Court on Wednesday morning. Krentcil is free on $2,500 cash bond. Before Wednesday's court hearing, Krentcil, whose skin has a deep bronze color from regular visits to the tanning salon, called the accusation a lie. "It's all made up," she said. She told The Associated Press her daughter, who was 5 at the time of the alleged incident in mid-April and has since turned 6, got sunburned by being outside on an unseasonably warm day. Now the victim's mother says the school knew her daughter's assailant was planning the onslaught. Stacy Hughes says she had no idea what had hit her when she was attacked at Thornville's Sheridan High School April 13. "I went up to talk to another friend of mine, and next thing I know, I am on the ground being punched in the face," Hughes said.Hughes says she was punched more than 20 times during the unprovoked assault. "I'm not a fighter. I don't fight people. But since this was my first time very being punched, it was frightening, and I didn't know what to do." The incident happened at about 8:45 a.m. when, according to DIA spokeswoman Jenny Schiavone, the woman was caught smoking a cigarette at gate B81, in a non-smoking area. At some point after airport workers told her to extinguish the cigarette, the woman took off her clothing. It wasn&rsquo;t immediately clear why. However, Denver Police say it was unrelated to the smoking issue.
